Dedicated to all my students who passed through and participated in English classes in the Colegio Colombo Hebreo  (even if they didn’t study). Especially during the 1980’s, the grand old days of the CCH, And in particular the Class of 1988, who kept me alive during four months in Israel!

And in memory of those who no longer with us:

Dr. Jose Vicente Avella, a master educator, who insisted that I teach at the CCH.

Batia Mikler, who gave her life to the CCH, and was an inspiration to me and many others.

Martha Amaya de Castro, school psychologist, for saving more than one student (and perhaps some teachers) from adolescent trauma.

Isi Wasserman, a fighter who shared all our ups and downs of the Class of ’88.

DISCLAIMER:  I am focusing on the decade of the 80’s when I was in charge of the English Department at the school.   I have not included all of my students here.  I have written about the incidents that are the most humorous, or the most memorable, or at least the ones that I remember.  (My memory is starting to fail).  So if you remember some other good incident, account or anecdote, or some inspiring photo to add to this collection, please feel free to send it to me at This email address is being protected from spambots. This is a blog.  I am not writing about “bad” incidents or students.  I am writing about funny or mischievous events, and some students had more talent for those than others.  I hope you enjoy it.
